Starter Company


Is running a clothing store or coffee shop in your future, or perhaps a marketing agency or renovation business? If you've got a great idea for a business – and the entrepreneurial drive to see it through – Starter Company is here to help you start your business!

Starter Company is a program mandated by the Ontario government, and delivered by local Small Business Enterprise Centres, which provides entrepreneurs with the resources and knowledge they need to start and grow their own business.

Starter Company entrepreneurs will have access to:

  • One-on-one guidance from the Small Business Centre
  • Business workshops on topics ranging from writing a business plan and cash flow strategies, to executing a marketing plan, to product & service pricing and growing your business with confidence
  • Six months of mentoring with local entrepreneurs and business professionals
  • Grant of up to $5,000

Could you be a Starter Company entrepreneur?

Starter Company is open to Ontario residents over the age of 18 who wish to start, expand or purchase a small business. Entrepreneurs must not be full-time students, able to work in their business at least 35-hours a week, and must be able to provide contribution of $1,250 (in cash or in kind), in order to qualify.

Applying for Starter Company is a competitive process.  Space is limited, so apply early!

Deadline for application inquiries is May 28, 11:59pm.

*Any applications received after May 28 will be considered for the next round of intake.
